Perfectly crafted analogue assets to give your digital photos analogue soul.

Grainmaker Essentials provides everything you need to take your digital photographs and make them feel alive! We've included endless analogue assets - grain structures, film borders, colour grades, light leaks, film burns, date imprints and paper textures. These are easy to use, with instant, drag & drop results and endless combinations possible.

Included in the Grainmaker Essentials:

  • 14 Lightroom film colour grades - We've processed thousands and thousands of rolls of film, giving us a unique insight into the profiles of everyone's favourite stocks. Meticulously, we've recreated some of these favourites as accurately as possible to shape the colours and tones of your digital photos.

  • 30 Grain textures - Texturise your photos with real 35mm film grain textures. These are full of real imperfections and character. Small scratches, chemical splotches, inconsistencies and variations in strength and intensities.

  • 10 Film border overlays - Real 35mm and 120 drag & drop film borders! Extracted from a variety of different analogue sources, through a variety of scanners, these are the perfect touch in composing and presenting your images online.

  • 30 Light leaks and film burns - Dive into the deep end of analogue texture with our real film burns and light leaks. These are incredibly characteristic of analogue photography, occurring when light hits the film - usually by accident, and resulting in splashes of light baked into the image. We've collect our favourites from thousands of rolls and preserved them for use in digital photography!

  • 10 Date and time imprints - Characteristic of film point and shoots, date and time imprints typically occur in the bottom corners of film photos from the 90's and 00's. We've extracted some favourites - including dates, messages and times, for you to overlay on your photos.

  • 10 Paper textures - Give your photos the feeling of being scanned from a magazine or photo book with our favourite paper textures! These can be overlayed on top of your final image to add even more character and nuance.

  • Video Walkthrough - We've included a thorough video walkthrough to help you get the most from all of these assets and ingredients. Easy to follow, with quick results, we'll show you everything you need to get started, as well as a few handy tips and tricks for developing a perfect workflow.

Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom are required to use this product!

Combine different analogue ingredients to create endless possibilities and results.

Film-based colour grades

Modelled off of the profiles and characteristics of popular film stocks, we've meticulously replicated all the favourites - Kodak, Fuji & Cinestill stocks, with a variety of colour and B&W options.

Give your photos some analogue soul

By combining and blending our analogue artefacts and colour grades, your photos can feel tactile, textured and full of character.

Grain, Dust and Scratches

Real film grain is imperfect. Inconsistencies like scratches, specks of dust, uneven densities etc provide nuanced texture and character. We've extracted our favourite grain structures from real 35mm film.

Film borders

Industry film scanners are often capable of scanning just beyond the frame, capturing unique and varied borders that have become a stylised look synonymous with analogue photography. We've collected a few favourites and turned them into drag and drop assets for your digital photos.

Light leaks and Film Burns

When shooting with real film, you'll often see some variety of film burn or light leaks. This is light hitting the negative, typically as an accident, and leaving a splash of colour across the frame. We scanned hundreds of light leaks and found the most impressive, so you can re-create these happy accidents on purpose.

Experimental Artefacts

The real-world tactility of film photography can lend itself toward things sometimes going wrong. Spilling champagne through your handbag with your film in it, accidentally putting your roll through the wash. These occurrences often result in some wild results when developed, and we saved them so you can get a little experimental with your own photos.

Date and Time Imprints

Analogue date and time quartz imprints, characteristic of 90's & 00's point and shoots, typically leave a time, date, or in some special cases little messages printed onto film photos. We found the rarest and coolest imprints we could, from a range of bespoke point and shoots.

What applications are required?

Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. We've built the colour grading into Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile-friendly presets.

From there, if you like, you can take your photos further and start adding additive analogue artefacts on top of your image in Adobe Photoshop.

Are these real film assets?

Yes! We run a film lab and have processed hundreds of thousands of rolls. From those, we've carefully collected and formatted our favourite analogue assets and created Grainmaker from those.

What makes it different to other film presets?

Grainmaker has been designed by a small group of film lab technicians and photographers. We've spent years developing hundreds of thousands of film rolls, and building Grainmaker up slowly along the way.

Most presets coming from photographers lack the resources and tools we're fortunate to own through our lab to dial in the details properly and fine tune our product.
